The facet joints are spinal joints located on each vertebra. Facet joints are located at the back of the vertebrae. They are also called zygapophyseal joints or Z-joints for short.
Facet joints can become painful for a variety of reasons such as injury, inflammation or wear and tear over time (degeneration).
Symptoms
Thoracic facet joint pain is generally located in the midline of the back. This pain is typically made worse with movements or activities that involve bending backwards (extension) or rotating.
